Position Summary: 

The Purchasing Director oversees the process for procurement of all FF&E contracted projects. This role is responsible for gathering and analyzing historical pricing data and staying in front of factors affecting supply and demand. This individual oversees purchasing policies and procedures and works collaboratively with the Purchasing Manager, Project Design Managers and Controller to maintain or come in under the project budget. The Purchasing Director performs strategic procurement and logistical activities across multiple categories of expenditures, seeking better value and more profitable procedures.

Measures of Success:

  • Continuously examines business trends and markets to get the greatest value for company's dollar without sacrificing quality. Measured by ongoing incremental increase in profits.
  • Maintains excellent vendor relations measured by ease of negotiation and feedback from vendors.
  • Develops and continuously implements Purchasing Contract Policies and Procedures measured by overall team's ability to come in under or at budget.
  • Individual team members are thriving and report 90% job satisfaction.


  • Meets weekly with and provides reporting to Controller, Design Director, Purchasing Manager and Project Design Managers.
  • Develops, leads, and executes purchasing strategies with Purchasing Manager, Controller and President.
  • Works collaboratively with other departments and company leadership.
  • Develops, monitors and tracks required Business Plan.
  • Tracks and reports key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness.
  • Crafts negotiation strategies and closes deals with optimal terms.
  • Partners with stakeholders to ensure clear requirements and documentation.
  • Forecasts price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power.
  • Performs cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Assesses, manages and mitigates risks.
  • Develops and actively negotiates with reliable vendors and suppliers.
  • Develops consistent methodology for evaluating vendor performance.
  • Collaborates with key vendors to develop national initiatives to support our business objectives.
  • Monitors and forecasts upcoming levels of demand.
  • Manages, trains, and coaches all team members effectively to ensure all activities are linked to the company strategy and goals.
  • Oversees purchasing database in TIM.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Skilled at mathematics, negotiation, financial analysis and supply chain management.
  • Interested and knowledgeable in market dynamics along with a good business sense.
  • Previously demonstrated negotiation and networking skills.
  • Solid judgment with ability to make sound decisions.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple group efforts within the company to achieve objectives.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data and to work with figures.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat/Bluebeam are required.

Experience / Education:

  • Working experience with vendor management software/project management software.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supervising others.
  • CPM Certification preferred.
  • Strong background and experience in the hospitality industry is required. Experience in commercial and residential design is preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics or Business Administration or equivalent experience in the field.
